Pinpoint Test C : DTC P081F
- Refer to Shift Interlock
for schematic and connector information.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The GSM and the BCM communicate on the HS-CAN but use a redundant hard wired system as a backup. If the HS-CAN system fails then the GSM and BCM communicate via this hard wired system.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition GSM P081F:00 Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) Signal Correlation: No Sub Type Information The GSM detects a voltage signal out of range during the HS-CAN operating modes. Possible Sources
- Connectors damaged or pushed-out terminals, circuitry open, shorted to power or shorted to ground
- GSM
- BCM
- C1 CHECK STOPLAMP CIRCUIT OPERATION
- Ignition ON.
- Depress and release the brake pedal while monitoring stoplamp illumination.
Do the stoplamps illuminate when the pedal is depressed, but not when the pedal is released?
Yes GO to C2 No REFER to: Stoplamps . - C2 CHECK BTSI CIRCUIT VOLTAGE
- Disconnect GSM C3532.
- Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals.
- Ignition ON.
- Depress and release the brake pedal while measuring the voltage on the brake transmission shift interlock circuit.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C3532-12 Ground
Is measured voltage greater than 11 volts with the brake pedal depressed, and 0 volts with the brake pedal released?
Yes GO to C6 No If voltage is always present, GO to C5. Otherwise, GO to C3 - C3 CHECK THE BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect BCM C2280G.
- Inspect the connectors for damaged or pushed-out terminals.
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to C4 No REPAIR the circuit. - C4 CHECK THE BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C2280G-46 Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to C5 No REPAIR the circuit. - Measure:
- C5 CHECK THE BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO POWER
- With the driver's door locked and the brake pedal not pressed.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C3532-12 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes Refer to BCM Guided Routine No CLEAR the DTC and operate the system, if the DTC resets, GO to C6 - C6 VERIFY THE GSM FAULTNOTE: If a GSM self-test is performed, the driver door must be closed and locked. A false P166B and/or P081F DTC sets if the driver door is opened or unlocked during the self-test.
- Connect BCM C2280G.
- Connect GSM C3532.
- Operate the system.
- Using the diagnostic scan tool, run the GSM self-test and retrieve all DTCs.
Is the condition still present?
Yes INSTALL a new GSM. REFER to: Gear Shift Module (GSM) . No The system is operating correctly at this time.
