  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

    DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

    DTC Description Fault Trigger Condition
IPC U0257:00 Lost Communication With Front Controls / Display Interface Module: No Sub Type Information Sets on-demand and in continuous memory in the IPC if data messages received from the FCDIM over the MS-CAN are missing for 5 seconds or longer.

    Possible Sources

    • Communication concern
    • Battery voltage concern
    • FCDIM
    • IPC

  2. BI1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

    • Ignition ON.

    • Verify there is an observable symptom present.

    Is an observable symptom present?

    Yes  GO to  BI2
No  The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition. CLEAR the DTC.
  3. BI2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the network test.

Does the FCDIM pass the network test?

    Yes  GO to  BI3
No  REFER to: Communications Network .
  4. BI3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE FCDIM (FRONT CONTROL/DISPLAY INTERFACE MODULE) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, retrieve the continuous memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the FCDIM.

Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?

Yes  Refer to the appropriate Information and Entertainment Systems article for the procedure.
    No  GO to  BI4
  5. BI4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

Is DTC U3006:16 or DTC U3006:17 recorded?

Yes  For DTC U3006:16, GO to Pinpoint Test BK  For DTC U3006:17, GO to Pinpoint Test BL
    No  GO to  BI5
  6. BI5 RECHECK THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)

NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration can be incorrectly set during the PMI or the PMI may not have been carried out.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

    • Wait 10 seconds.

    • Repeat the IPC self-test.

    Is DTC U0257:00 still present?

    Yes  GO to  BI6
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition. CLEAR the DTC.
  7. BI6 CHECK FOR CORRECT FCDIM (FRONT CONTROL/DISPLAY INTERFACE MODULE) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect all FCDIM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the FCDIM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  INSTALL a new FCDIM. Refer to the appropriate Information and Entertainment Systems article for the procedure. CLEAR the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). REPEAT the self-test. If DTC U0257:00 is still present, GO to  BI7
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  8. BI7 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect and inspect the IPC connector.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the IPC connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.

    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, Refer to IPC Guided Routine Testing .
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
