High-Pressure Fuel Pump: Installation
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Ford EcoSport. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- If equipped, remove the underbody shield fasteners and then remove the underbody shield.
-
NOTE: Only rotate the crankshaft Clockwise (CW) or damage to the engine may occur.NOTE: The cam lobe for the high-pressure fuel pump must be at BDC for the high-pressure fuel pump installation.
Using the crankshaft pulley bolt, turn the crankshaft until the high-pressure fuel pump drive lobe is at BDC.
- Apply clean engine oil to the high-pressure fuel pump drive unit bore, the drive lobe and the high-pressure fuel pump tappet. Install the high-pressure fuel pump tappet. Refer to: Specifications
.
- Install a new high-pressure fuel pump O-ring seal and lubricate with clean engine oil. Refer to: Specifications
.
- If removed, install the underbody shield.
Torque: 13 lb.in (1.5 Nm)
- Install the high-pressure fuel pump and loosely install the high-pressure fuel pump bolts, alternately tighten each bolt one half of a revolution until seated.
Torque: Stage 1: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)Stage 2: 115 lb.in (13 Nm)
-
NOTE: Make sure that a new component is installed.NOTE: Only tighten the high-pressure fuel tube flare nuts finger tight at this stage.NOTE: Calculate the correct torque wrench setting for the following torque. Refer to the illustration below.
Install the new high-pressure fuel pump-to-fuel rail high-pressure fuel tube and tighten the flare nuts finger tight, then tighten the flare nuts in the following 3 stages.
Torque: Stage 1: 124 lb.in (14 Nm)Stage 2: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)Stage 3: Tighten an additional : 20 deg.
- Connect the high-pressure fuel pump fuel feed tube spring lock coupling. Refer to: Spring Lock Couplings
.
- Connect the high-pressure fuel pump electrical connector.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Pressurize the fuel system. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
