Battery Disconnect and Connect

Special Tool(s) / General Equipment 

Adhesive Tape

Disconnect 

NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and connected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven to allow the PCM to relearn the adaptive strategy values.
NOTE: When disconnecting the battery ground cable to interrupt power to the vehicle electrical system, disconnect the battery ground cable only. It is not necessary to disconnect the positive battery cable.

Disconnecting the battery ground cable to interrupt power to the vehicle electrical system only 

  1. Remove the bolt and detach the negative battery cable from the LH strut tower.

    Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

  2. Using electrical tape, cover the negative battery cable terminal. Use the General Equipment: Adhesive Tape

    Disconnecting the battery cables 

  3. Disconnect the battery monitoring sensor electrical connector.

  4. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the battery monitoring sensor when removing the terminal from the battery post. Do not pry on the terminals or component damage may occur.

    Loosen the nut and position the negative battery cable aside.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  5. Release the tabs and position the BJB cover.

    1. Detach the battery cable retainers. Remove the nut and position the cable aside.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    2. Vehicles with automatic transmission
    3. Vehicles with manual transmission

  6. Detach the battery cable retainers. Loosen the nut and position the BJB aside.

    Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

Connect 

  1. Reverse the disconnect procedure.
  2. If equipped with one-touch open and close driver window, perform the window motor initialization. Refer to: Power Door Window Initialization .
