Transfer Case Rear Seal: Installation

  1. Using the special tool, install a new rear seal. Use Special Service Tool: 308-877 Installer, Pinion Output Seal.

  2. If needed, replace the seal deflector on the output flange using a press.
  3. Align the marks, and install the pinion flange.

  4. Install the PTU shield, then install and tighten the PTU shield bolts.

    Torque: 124 lb.in (14 Nm)

  5. NOTE: Refer to the rotational torque previously recorded with the Nm (lb-in) torque wrench. Tighten the pinion nut in small increments until it is within 2.3-3.0 Nm of the reference measurement. If 3.0 Nm is exceeded, then the collapsible spacer will be damaged and a new collapsible spacer will be required.

    Using the special tool to hold the output pinion flange, install and tighten the new pinion flange nut.. Use Special Service Tool: 205-072 Universal Flange Holding Wrench.

  6. Install the PTU. Refer to: Transfer Case .
