Valve Cover: Removal

  1. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  3. Disconnect the vacuum pump inlet tube coupling.

  4. NOTE: The turbocharger compressor vanes can be damaged by even the smallest particles. When removing any turbocharger or engine air intake system component, ensure that no debris enters the system. Failure to do so may result in damage to the turbocharger.

    1. Loosen the clamps and remove the nuts. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

      Torque Bolt: 97 lb.in (11 Nm) Clamps: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    2. Release the clamp and disconnect the vacuum hose.
    3. Disconnect the quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
    4. Disconnect the crankcase pressure sensor electrical connector.
    5. Disconnect the PCV coupling.
    6. Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector and remove the air cleaner outlet pipe assembly.

  5. NOTE: The O-ring seal is to be reused unless damaged.

    1. Disconnect the CMP sensors.
    2. Remove the bolts and the CMP sensors.

  6. Remove the following items:

    1. Evaporative emission canister purge valve. Refer to: Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Valve .
    2. Fuel rail. Refer to: Fuel Rail .
    3. High pressure fuel pump. Refer to: High-Pressure Fuel Pump .

  7. Detach the wiring harness retainers.

  8. Detach the fuel wiring harness retainers.

  9. Detach the engine wiring harness retainers.

  10. Detach the retainers, clamp and position the vacuum tubes aside. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  11. Disconnect the PCV tube.

    1. Remove the oil level indicator.
    2. Loosen the fasteners and remove the valve cover.

  12. Inspect the valve cover gasket, replace if necessary.
