Intake Manifold: Removal

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  3. Disconnect the vacuum pump inlet tube coupling.

  4. NOTE: The turbocharger compressor vanes can be damaged by even the smallest particles. When removing any turbocharger or engine air intake system component, ensure that no debris enters the system. Failure to do so may result in damage to the turbocharger.

    1. Loosen the clamps and remove the nuts.

      Torque Nuts: 97 lb.in (11 Nm) Clamps: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    2. Release the clamp and disconnect the vacuum hose. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
    3. Disconnect the quick release couplings. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
    4. Disconnect the crankcase pressure sensor electrical connector.
    5. Disconnect the PCV coupling.
    6. Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector and remove the air cleaner outlet pipe assembly.

  5. NOTE: The turbocharger compressor vanes can be damaged by even the smallest particles. When removing any turbocharger or engine air intake system component, ensure that no debris enters the system. Failure to do so may result in damage to the turbocharger.

    1. Remove the bolt.

      Torque 97 lb.in (11 Nm)

    2. Loosen the clamps and remove the CAC outlet pipe.

      Torque 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

  6. Remove the evaporative emission canister purge valve. Refer to: Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Valve .
  7. Detach the degas bottle and position aside.

  8. Disconnect the throttle body electrical connector.

    1. Disconnect the quick release couplings and remove the PCV tube.
    2. Disconnect the MAP sensor and the fuel injector wiring harness electrical connector.
    3. Disconnect the vacuum hose quick release coupling.

  9. Detach the wiring harness retainers.

  10. Disconnect the VCT solenoid electrical connectors.

    • Detach the wiring harness retainers.

    • Release the coolant hose from the retainers.

  11. Remove the starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .
    1. NOTE: If equipped.

      Disconnect the auxiliary coolant pump electrical connector and detach the wiring harness retainer.

    2. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connectors.
    3. Detach the wiring harness retainers.

  12. NOTE: If equipped.

    Remove the nuts, the bolt and position the auxiliary coolant pump bracket aside.

  13. NOTE: The throttle body and adapter may have been removed during engine front cover removal.

    Loosen the clamp, remove the bolts, studs and the intake manifold.

  14. Inspect the gaskets and replace as necessary.
