Pinpoint Test A : No Power In All Ignition Switch Positions - Conventional Ignition Switch

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2018 Ford EcoSport. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Refer to Power Distribution/BCM for schematic and connector information.

    Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

REFER to: Steering Wheel and Column Electrical Components - System Operation and Component Description .

    Possible Sources

    • Fuse
    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Ignition switch
    • BCM

    Visual Inspection and Pre-checks

    • Inspect the battery and battery cables
    • Inspect the BCM fuse 4 (10A)

  2. NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  3. A1 CHECK THE VEHICLE BATTERY

    • Carry out the Battery Condition Test. REFER to: Battery .

    Is the battery OK?

    Yes  GO to  A2
    No  CORRECT the battery condition.
  4. A2 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE IGNITION SWITCH

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Disconnect Ignition Switch C250.

    • Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Refer to C250-4
      GFD324697Courtesy of FORD MOTOR COMPANY
      Ground

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

Yes  INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to: Ignition Switch .
No  VERIFY the BCM fuse 4 (10A) is OK. If OK, GO to  A3
If not OK, REFER to OEM Electrical Wiring Diagram Introduction to identify the possible cause of the circuit short.
  5. A3 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Disconnect BCM C2280D.

    • Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      Refer to C250-4
      GFD324698Courtesy of FORD MOTOR COMPANY
      Refer to C2280D-24

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

    Yes  GO to  A4
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  6. A4 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION

    • Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.

    • Repair:

      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary

    • Reconnect the BCM connectors and all other previously disconnected connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.

    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present?

Yes  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) .
No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
