Pinpoint Test W : The Low Fuel Warning Indicator Is Never Or Always On

  1. Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

    See Low Fuel Warning Indicator. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - System Operation and Component Description .

    Possible Sources 

    • Fuel gauge concern
    • IPC

  2. W1 VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE FUEL GAUGE

    • Ignition ON.

    • Verify the fuel gauge operates correctly and there are no customer concerns with the fuel gauge operation.

    Does the fuel gauge operate correctly without any customer concerns related to fuel gauge indication? 

    Yes  GO to  W2
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test C 
  3. W2 CONFIRM THE CURRENT FUEL LEVEL

    • Scroll to the

      Inst Fuel1  display.

    Does the FLPM (second value) indicate 104 or less with an administrator key or between 104 and 164 with a MyKey® programmed key? 

    Yes  GO to  W3
    No  If the low fuel warning indicator is always on, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . If the low fuel warning indicator is never on, the system is operating correctly at this time based on the current fuel level.
  4. W3 CHECK THE LOW FUEL WARNING INDICATOR OPERATION USING A DIAGNOSTIC SCAN TOOL

    • Ignition OFF.

    • Ignition ON.
      NOTE: The cycling of the ignition is to exit the Dealer Test Mode. An alternate method is to press and hold the LH OK button.

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).

    • Select the IPC low fuel warning indicator (LOFUELL) PID.

    • Command the low fuel warning indicator on and off while observing the low fuel warning indicator.

    Does the low fuel warning indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off? 

    Yes  If the low fuel warning indicator is always on, the system is operating correctly at this time based on the current fuel level. If the low fuel warning indicator is never on, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
    No  INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to: Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) .
