Symptom Chart - Transmission Cooling

Symptom Possible Sources Action
Transmission overheating Bent or crushed transmission fluid cooler tubes INSPECT the transmission fluid cooler tubes for damage. INSTALL new components as necessary.
Clogged transmission fluid cooler or transmission fluid cooler tubes INSPECT the transmission fluid cooler and the transmission fluid cooler tubes for plugging. INSTALL new components as necessary.
Cooler bypass valve stuck closed INSTALL a new cooler bypass valve. Refer to: Cooler Bypass Valve - 1.0L EcoBoost (92kW/125PS) . or Refer to: Cooler Bypass Valve - 1.5L Duratec (90kW/120PS) - I3 . TEST the system for normal operation.
Transmission fluid warmer coolant control valve is sticking (if equipped) INSTALL a known good coolant control valve. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Heater Coolant Control Valve . TEST the system for normal operation.
System leaks INSPECT the transmission fluid cooler, the transmission fluid cooler tubes and the cooler bypass valve for leaks. INSTALL new components as necessary
Transmission fluid level overfull Refer to: Transmission Fluid Level Check .
Internal transmission concerns Refer to: Diagnosis By Symptom .
Vibration - a high frequency (20-80 Hz) that is felt through the seat or gear shifter. Changes with engine speed. Transmission fluid cooler tubes grounded CHECK the transmission fluid cooler tubes. REPAIR as necessary.
