Intake Manifold: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
  1. Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
  2. Disconnect the battery ground and positive cables. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
    • Detach the wiring harness retainer.

    • Remove and discard the nuts. Remove the strut tower cross brace.

  4. Remove the following items:

    1. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
    2. Refer to: Cowl Panel Grille .

  5. Remove the fasteners and the cowl extension.

    1. Position the heater hose aside.
    2. Remove the nuts.
    3. Remove the heater hose support.

    • Disconnect the throttle body and EVAP purge valve electrical connectors.

    • Release the clamps and position the vacuum tube aside.

    • Position the heater hose aside.

    • Remove the nuts.

    • Remove the heater hose support.

    1. Disconnect the couplings and remove the crankcase vent tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  9. NOTE: On both sides.

    Disconnect the fuel injector electrical connectors.

    • Disconnect the fuel pressure sensor electrical connector.

    1. Disconnect the fuel supply tube. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .

  11. NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the fuel rail from the intake manifold assembly.

    Remove the fuel rail bolts.

    1. Loosen the intake manifold bolts.
    2. Position the manifold up and towards the front of the engine to access the rear of the manifold.

    • Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connectors.

    • Detach the wiring harness retainers.

    • Remove the intake manifold.

    • Remove and discard the gaskets.

    • Clean and inspect all sealing surfaces.
