Oil Pump: Removal

6-Speed Manual Transmission - MT82/10-Speed Automatic Transmission - 10R80 

NOTE: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. All parts must be thoroughly cleaned and any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.
  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
  2. NOTE: Make sure to minimize damage to sealer foam and avoid pulling apart dash seal brackets from retainer pins. Excessive damage may allow engine noise, fumes, air or water to enter the passenger compartment.

    1. Remove the steering column dash seal nuts.
    2. Loosen the dash seal.
    3. Hand start the dash seal nuts.

  3. Using a holding device, hold the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.

  4. Remove the nuts and the engine appearance cover.

  5. Disconnect the battery ground. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  6. Remove the engine front cover. Refer to: Engine Front Cover .
  7. Install the special tool on the LH side of the cylinder head. Use Special Service Tool: 303-050 (T70P-6000) Lifting Bracket, Engine.

  8. NOTE: Coolant tube removed for clarity.

    Install the special tool on the RH side of the cylinder head. Use Special Service Tool: 303-050 (T70P-6000) Lifting Bracket, Engine.

  9. Remove the retainers and the radiator top shield.

  10. Install retaining pins to support cooling module.

  11. Remove the RH and LH engine mount bracket nuts.

  12. Disconnect the vacuum tubes from the engine mount control vacuum reservoir.

  14. NOTE: Do not position the legs of the Engine Support Bar on the fenders. Instead, position the legs on the body structure near the suspension strut tower. Failure to follow these instructions may result in body damage.

    Install the special tool to support the engine. Install Special Service Tool: 303-F072 Support Bar, Engine.

  15. Remove the front wheels and tires. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .
  16. Remove the screws, bolts and the underbody shield.

  18. Drain engine oil and install drain plug. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

    Torque: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)

  19. Remove and discard the engine oil filter. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment

  20. WARNING: Do not reuse steering column shaft bolts. This may result in fastener failure and steering column shaft detachment or loss of steering control. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious injury to vehicle occupant(s).
    WARNING: DO NOT hammer, pry or force steering column and column shafts during installation or removal. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to steering components that could lead to loss of steering control during vehicle operation and could result in serious personal injury or death.
    WARNING: DO NOT attempt to remove or install the steering column lower u-joint at the steering gear without first loosening the steering column dash seal and fasteners. Failure to follow this instruction may cause damage to steering components that could lead to loss of steering control during vehicle operation and could result in serious personal injury or death.

    Detach the steering column lower shaft from the lower coupling.

    1. Remove and discard the steering column shaft bolt.
    2. Pull apart the steering column shaft from the coupling.
    3. Secure the lower shaft to the frame rail to avoid damaging it during subframe removal.

  21. Detach the EPAS wiring harness pin-type retainers.

  22. Detach the brake line retainers from the subframe.

  23. Remove the bolts from the support bar on the front of the subframe.

    Remove the oil pan bolt.

  25. If equipped, remove the RH and LH front height sensors. Refer to: Front Suspension Height Sensor .
  26. Remove the fasteners and the RH deflector shield.

  27. Using an adjustable stand, support the subframe. Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

  28. Mark the position of the front subframe for reference during installation.

  32. Using an adjustable stand, lower the subframe 101.6 mm (4 in.). Use the General Equipment: Vehicle/Axle Stands

  33. Remove the nut from the RH engine mount bracket stud bolt for the transmission cooling tubes.

  39. Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .

    1. WARNING: Take extra care when handling the compressed spring.

      Release the tension on the tensioner spring.

    2. Remove the shoulder bolts and the tensioner and position the chain aside.
