Transmission - 2.7L EcoBoost (238kW/324PS): Removal
All vehicles
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Remove the following items:
- Refer to: Battery Tray .
- Refer to: Cowl Panel .
- Remove the retainers and the RH and LH cowl filler panels.
Vehicles with front wheel drive (FWD)
- Remove the front subframe. Refer to: Front Subframe

All wheel drive (AWD)
- Remove the transfer case. Refer to: Transfer Case
.
All vehicles
- Loosen the clamps and disconnect the RH air cleaner outlet pipe and the RH CAC intake pipe.
- Loosen the clamps and remove the LH CAC intake pipe.
- Loosen the clamp and disconnect the RH CAC intake pipe.

- Remove the oil filler cap.
- Remove the fasteners and the engine appearance cover.
- Disconnect the tubes, remove the bolt and remove the RH air cleaner outlet pipe.
- Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the bolt and the RH CAC intake pipe.
- Disconnect the LH HO2S and the LH catalyst monitor sensor electrical connectors.

- Disconnect the cable from the manual control lever.
- Remove the bolt and position the cable aside.
- If equipped with active warm up, remove and discard the bolts and remove the transmission fluid cooler tube.
- Remove the transmission fluid cooler tube.
- Remove and discard the bolt.
- Loosen the fitting and remove the transmission fluid cooler tube.
- Remove the nuts and position aside the transmission fluid warmer.
- Remove the starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .
- Remove the upper transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Disconnect the PCV tube and position aside.
- Remove the bolt and position aside the vacuum harness pressure sensor.

- Remove the ground wire bolt from the RH cylinder head.
- Detach the retainers and position the ground wire aside.
- Install the special tools on the engine.
- Straight side of the special tool.
- Sloped side of the special tool. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1246 Engine Spreader Bar., 303-1634 Lift Eyes (2).
- Using the special tools, support the engine. Use Special Service Tool: 303-F070 Support Bar, Engine.

- Remove the transmission support insulator bracket bolt.
- Remove and discard the bolts and remove the transmission support insulator bracket.
- Remove and discard the rear roll restrictor bolt.
- Remove and discard the bolts, lower the transmission and remove the transmission support insulator.
- Remove the transmission fluid cooler tube secondary latches.
- Using the special tool, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler tubes from the transmission fluid cooler thermal bypass valve. Use Special Service Tool: 307-569 Disconnect Tool TOC Line (1/2).

NOTE: If transmission disassembly or installation of a new transmission is necessary, drain the transmission fluid.
Remove the drain plug and drain the transmission. Install the drain plug.
Torque
: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)
- Position aside and support the LH halfshaft.
- Remove and discard the halfshaft retaining circlip.
Vehicles with front wheel drive (FWD)
- Remove and discard the halfshaft retaining strap and nuts.
- Position the RH halfshaft aside and support with a length of mechanics wire.
- Remove the bolts and the catalytic converter bracket.
All vehicles
- Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner. Refer to: Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner .
- Detach the wiring harness retainers, slide up the insulator. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Remove the bolts the studbolt and position aside the A/C compressor.
- Remove the generator bolt and nut.
- Position the A/C line bracket from the generator stud.
- Position the generator out to the end of the upper stud.
- Remove and discard the nuts and remove the LH catalytic converter.
- Remove and discard the gasket.
- Remove and discard the bolts and remove the roll restrictor bracket.
- Remove the retainers and the access cover.

NOTE: Using the crankshaft pulley bolt, turn the engine clockwise.
Remove and discard the torque converter nuts.
- Disconnect the electrical connector and wiring harness retainers.

NOTE: Secure the transmission to the transmission jack with a safety strap.
Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack

- Remove the ground cable nut.
- Disconnect the wiring harness retainer.
- If equipped, remove the RH transmission-to-engine bolt.
- Disconnect the PTU vent tube and coolant hose.
- Remove the LH transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Remove the lower transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Separate the transmission from the engine and install the special tool and remove the transmission. Use Special Service Tool: 307-346 (T97T-7902-A) Retainer, Torque Converter.
- Remove the nut and the manual control lever.

NOTE: If transmission disassembly or installation of a new transmission is necessary, remove the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler tubes.
Remove and discard the bolts, remove the nuts and the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler tubes.
- Inspect the transmission case to be sure that the transmission fluid cooler tube seals and backing rings were removed with the transmission fluid cooler tubes and are not stuck in the transmission case. If the transmission fluid cooler tube seals or backing rings are stuck in the transmission case, remove the seals and backing rings.

NOTE: Failure to clean the transmission fluid cooler tubes can result in transmission failure.
If the transmission is to be overhauled or if installing a new or re-manufactured transmission, carryout the transmission fluid cooler backflushing and cleaning. Clean the transmission-mounted transmission fluid cooler tubes by hand. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Cooler - Backflushing and Cleaning .
