Oil Pan: Removal

2WD/4WD
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .

NOTE: Do not pull the engine appearance cover forward or sideways to remove. Failure to press straight upward on the underside of the cover at the attachment points may result in damage to the cover or engine components.
- Place your hand under the engine appearance cover at each grommet location and push straight up to release each grommet from the studs.
- After all of the grommets have been released from the studs, remove the appearance cover from the engine.
- Remove the oil level indicator.
- Remove the following items:
- Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .
- Refer to: Air Cleaner .
- Detach the wiring harness retainer from the transmission-to-engine stud bolt.

NOTE: To prevent damage to the transmission, do not loosen the transmission-to-engine fasteners more than 5 mm (0.19 in).
Loosen the bolts 5 mm (0.19 in).
- Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.
- Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.
- Disconnect the CAC hose, electrical connector and the wire retainers. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

NOTE: To prevent damage to the transmission, do not loosen the transmission-to-engine fasteners more than 5 mm (0.19 in).
Loosen the transmission-to-engine bolts 5 mm (0.19 in).
- Remove the A/C compressor belt. Refer to: Air Conditioning (A/C) Compressor Belt .
- Loosen the clamp and position CAC inlet tube off the turbocharger.
- Loosen the clamp, remove the nuts and the CAC inlet tube.

- Remove the catalytic converter support bracket bolts.
- Loosen the catalytic converter support bracket bolt.
- Remove the engine roll restrictor bolt and discard.

- Disconnect the electrical connectors and wiring retainer.
- Remove the nut and stud.
- Remove the bolts and position the A/C compressor aside and support.

- Remove the oil pan drain bolt and drain the engine oil. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
- Install the oil pan drain bolt.
Torque: 20 lb.ft (27 Nm)
- Remove and discard the engine oil filter. Use the General Equipment: Oil Drain Equipment
4WD
- Remove the transfer case. Refer to: Transfer Case

2WD/4WD

NOTE: To prevent damage to the transmission, do not loosen the engine-to-transmission fasteners more than 5 mm (0.19 in).
Loosen the engine-to-transmission bolts 5 mm (0.19 in).
- Remove the oil pan-to-transmission bolt.
- Remove the oil pan bolts.
- Separate the transmission from the engine 5 mm (0.19 in).
- Remove the engine front cover-to-oil pan bolts.
- Remove the bolts and the oil pan.

- Clean and prepare the RTV sealing surface. Refer to: RTV Sealing Surface Cleaning and Preparation .
