Transfer Case

- Remove the RH halfshaft. Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, All-Wheel Drive (AWD) .
- If equipped, remove the retainers and the center under body shield.
- Remove and discard the driveshaft to PTU bolt and washer assemblies.

- Mark the driveshaft and PTU flange alignment.
- Using a punch and a copper hammer, separate the driveshaft from the PTU flange.
- Remove the driveshaft from the PTU flange. Use the General Equipment: Punch Use the General Equipment: Copper Hammer
- Loosen the clamp and position the CAC tube aside.
- Disconnect the CAC hose, electrical connector and the wire retainer. Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer
- Loosen the clamp, remove the nuts and the CAC tube.
- Remove the PTU cooling fan. Refer to: Power Transfer Unit Cooling Fan .
- Remove the PTU support bracket and bolts.
- Remove the PTU heat shield bolts and the heat shield.

NOTE: The PTU vent hose should be replaced whenever a new PTU is installed.
Disconnect the PTU vent hose.

NOTE: Limited access, this step may take more than 3 minutes to complete.
Remove and discard the upper PTU bolts.
- Remove and discard the lower PTU bolts.
- Remove the PTU.
- Remove and discard the PTU to transmission compression seal.
