Coolant Pump: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE: The replacement coolant pump is not equipped with a clutch and engine harness connector plug. Check OASIS for any applicable SSMs. If an SSM exists, follow SSM instructions. When the original coolant pump is equipped with a clutch and engine harness connector, cut the harness connector off, use heat shrink to seal the wire ends, and tape back the wires as needed.
  1. NOTE: Make sure that the mating faces are clean and free of foreign material.

    Install a new gasket.

  2. NOTE: Make sure that new bolts are installed.

    Install the coolant pump and tighten the bolts.

    Torque:

    Stage 1: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)

    Stage 2: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  3. NOTE: Make sure that the components are installed to the position noted before removal.

  4. WARNING: The tensioner is under spring tension. Be careful when handling the tensioner. Failure to follow this instruction may result in personal injury.

    1. Install the timing belt tensioner and tighten the bolt.

      Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    2. Remove the holding pin.

      Remove the General Equipment: 4 mm Drill Bit

    1. NOTE: Make sure that the components are installed to the position noted before removal.
    2. Remove Special Service Tool: 303-1556 Locking Tool, Timing Belt.

  5. Remove Special Service Tool: 303-748 Locking Tool, Crankshaft.

  6. Install and tighten the engine block bolt.

    Torque: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

  7. Rinse residual engine coolant off the timing belt and the related drive components.
  8. Install the timing belt cover.

    1. Install the timing belt cover bolts.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    2. Install the bolt.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    3. Install and tighten the engine mount stud.

      Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    4. NOTE: Only tighten the bolts finger tight at this stage.

      Install the coolant pump pulley and tighten the bolts.

    5. Position the wiring aside assembly and attach the wiring harness retainer.
    6. Install and tighten the bolt.
    7. Attach the wiring harness retainers.

    1. Close the cover and attach the retainer.
    2. Install and tighten the timing cover stud bolt.

      Torque: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

    1. Install the supporting bracket and tighten the nut.

      Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

    2. Install the bolt and attach the wiring harness retainer.

      Torque: 17 lb.ft (23 Nm)

  9. Install the accessory drive tensioner and tighten the bolts.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  10. Install the following items:

    1. Install the engine mount. Refer to: Engine Mount .
    2. Install the generator. Refer to: Generator .

  11. Position the support bracket and tighten the bolts.

    Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

  12. NOTE: Make sure that a new component is installed.

    Install the axle bearing support and tighten the nuts.

    Torque:

    Stage 1: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    Stage 2: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    Stage 3: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

  13. Install the underbody shield and the retainers.

  14. Tighten the bolts.

    Torque: 18 lb.ft (24 Nm)

  15. Install the TC inlet pipe and tighten the bolts.

    Torque: 71 lb.in (8 Nm)

    1. Tighten the clamp.

      Torque: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    2. Connect the bypass hose and attach the wiring harness retainers.

      Use the General Equipment: Hose Clamp Remover/Installer

  16. Install the vent hose.

  17. Install the following items:

    1. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe .

  18. Connect the electrical connector and attach the wiring harness retainer.

  19. Connect the electrical connector.

  20. Install the engine appearance cover.

  21. Fill and bleed the cooling system. Refer to: Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling and Bleeding .
