Removal And Installation: Transmission: Installation

NOTE: If removed, inspect the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler tube backing rings and seals for damage and install new backing rings or seals if necessary.
- Install the backing ring (7J324)
- Lubricate and install the seal (7D258)
Material: Motorcraft ® MERCON ® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-10-QLVC (MERCON ® LV) (WSS-M2C938-A)
- Install the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler tubes, the new bolts and nut.
- Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
- Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
- Install the transmission fluid warmer bracket and nuts.
Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)

NOTE: Make sure that when installing the manual control lever, it is fully seated onto the manual control lever shaft. Damage to the manual control lever shaft will occur and the manual lever will come loose.NOTE: Make sure to hold the manual control lever while tightening the manual control lever nut or damage to the manual control lever and park components will occur.
Install the manual control lever and nut.
Torque: 159 lb.in (18 Nm)
- Lubricate the torque converter pilot hub with Multi-Purpose Grease. Use Special Service Tool: 307-346 (T97T-7902-A) Retainer, Torque Converter.
Material: Motorcraft ® Multi-Purpose Grease Spray / XL-5-A (ESB-M1C93-B)

- Inspect the torque converter stud and flexplate for paint marks.
- Align the torque converter stud and flexplate hole near the paint marks to the 12 o'clock position.

NOTE: If the transmission is not positioned on the dowel pins, damage to the transmission may occur.
If the dowel pins were pulled out of the engine block during removal, install new dowel pins in the engine block.

NOTE: Secure the transmission to the transmission jack with a safety strap.
Using a transmission jack, support the transmission. Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
- Position the transmission behind the engine and remove the special tool. Use Special Service Tool: 307-346 (T97T-7902-A) Retainer, Torque Converter.
- Position the transmission on the dowel pins and install the lower transmission-to-engine bolts.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the LH transmission-to-engine bolts.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)

- If equipped, install the RH transmission-to-engine bolt.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the ground cable and nut.
Torque: 133 lb.in (15 Nm)
- Connect the wiring harness retainer.
- If equipped, install the RH transmission-to-engine bolt.

NOTE: Using the crankshaft pulley bolt, turn the engine clockwise.
Install the new torque converter nuts.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the access cover and the retainers.
- Connect the electrical connector and the wiring harness retainers.
- Install the roll restrictor bracket and the bolts.
Material: Motorcraft ® Threadlock and Sealer / TA-25-B
Torque: 92 lb.ft (125 Nm)
- Inspect the halfshaft hub for wear or damage and install a new halfshaft, if necessary.
- Inspect the dust shield.
- Inspect the LH halfshaft seal surface.
- Inspect the differential side gear splines.

NOTE: Make sure new component is installed.
Install the new inner halfshaft retaining circlip.

NOTE: If the transmission has been replaced or overhauled, the halfshaft seals do not need to be replaced.
Install a new LH halfshaft seal. Refer to: Halfshaft Seal LH .

NOTE: Do not fully install shaft at this time.
Using part: AA5P-4N206-A, install the splines of the LH halfshaft through the halfshaft seal protector and the new halfshaft seal.

NOTE: Insert shaft until circlip is fully seated. When checking if circlip is seated do not pull on CV joints or damage can result.NOTE: Pull on the inner CV joint to ensure the halfshaft circlip is seated properly.
Insert the LH halfshaft until the halfshaft retaining clip is fully seated.
- Connect the transmission fluid cooler to transmission cooler bypass valve tube.
- Install the transmission fluid cooler to transmission cooler bypass valve tube secondary latch.
- Set the transmission support insulator and roll restrictor in place.
- Loosely install the transmission support insulator bolt.
Material: Motorcraft ® Threadlock and Sealer / TA-25-B
- Install the transmission support insulator studs.
Material: Motorcraft ® Threadlock and Sealer / TA-25-B
Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)
- Install the transmission support insulator bolts.
Material: Motorcraft ® Threadlock and Sealer / TA-25-B
Torque: 59 lb.ft (80 Nm)

- Install the roll restrictor bolt.
Material: Motorcraft ® Threadlock and Sealer / TA-25-B
Torque: 111 lb.ft (150 Nm)
- Tighten the bolt.
Torque: 85 lb.ft (115 Nm)
- Install the roll restrictor bolt.
- Install the transmission support insulator bracket, nuts and bolt.
- Torque: 66 lb.ft (90 Nm)
- Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
- Install the radiator sight shield and the pin-type retainers.
- Install the upper transmission-to-engine bolts.
Torque: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the starter motor. Refer to: Starter Motor .
- Position back the transmission fluid warmer and install the bolts.
Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
- Install the transmission fluid warmer to cooler bypass cooler tube.
- Install a new bolt.
Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
- Tighten the fitting.
Torque: 22 lb.ft (30 Nm)
- Install a new bolt.
- Install the transmission fluid warmer to transmission fluid cooler tube and new bolt.
Torque: 97 lb.in (11 Nm)
- Install the transmission cooler tube bracket nut.
Torque: 80 lb.in (9 Nm)
- Connect the transmission cooler bypass valve to transmission fluid cooler tube.
- Install the transmission cooler bypass valve to transmission fluid cooler tube secondary latch.

- Install the ground wire and the bolt.
Torque: 159 lb.in (18 Nm)
- Attach the wiring harness retainers.
- Install the ground wire and the bolt.
- Connect the PCV tube.
- Install the vacuum harness pressure sensor and the bolt.
Torque: 62 lb.in (7 Nm)

- Attach the cable to the transmission control lever.
- Position the cable and install the bolt.
- Install the power transfer unit. Refer to: Power Transfer Unit .
- Install the front subframe. Refer to: Front Subframe .
- Install the following items:
- Refer to: Charge Air Cooler (CAC) Intake Pipe .
- Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe RH .
- Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe LH .
- Refer to: Battery Tray .
- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to: Selector Lever Cable Adjustment .
- Fill the transmission with transmission fluid. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill .
- After completing the repairs, perform the Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure using a diagnostic scan tool.
- If a new solenoid body is installed, the solenoid body strategy must be updated. Refer to: Transmission Strategy Download .
