- Lubricate the input shaft with a thin coating of grease.
Material
: Grease - High Temperature (ESD-M1C220-A)
- Install the transmission.
- Install the bellhousing bolts. Tighten on both sides simultaneously.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Remove the following items:
- Use the General Equipment: Wooden Block
- Use the General Equipment: Retaining Strap
- Use the General Equipment: Transmission Jack
- Install the transmission support insulator bracket.
Torque
: 59 lb.ft (80 Nm)
- Using the special tool, position the engine and transmission to align the transmission support insulator bracket with the transmission support insulator. Use Special Service Tool: 303-1554 Engine Support Bar.

WARNING: Make sure that a new bolt is installed.
Install the transmission support insulator and the bolt.
Torque
: 109 lb.ft (148 Nm)
- Install the clutch hydraulic tube in the slave cylinder.
- Install the bellhousing bolts.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the bellhousing bolts.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the LH halfshaft. Refer to: Front Halfshaft LH .
- Install the splash shield. Refer to: Fender Splash Shield .

NOTE: Do not fully install the halfshaft at this time.
Using part: 97ZT-7M181-A Seal Protector, install the intermediate shaft into the transmission.

NOTE: Insert the intermediate shaft until the intermediate shaft bearing is centered in the concave groove of the intermediate shaft bearing bracket.
Remove the seal protector and install the intermediate shaft into the transmission.

NOTE: Make sure that a new component is installed.
Tighten the bottom nut.
Torque
: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)

NOTE: Make sure that a new component is installed.
Tighten the top nut.
Torque
: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)
- Tighten the bottom nut.
Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Tighten the top nut.
Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

- Install the RH lower control arm in the steering knuckle and install the bolt and nut.
Torque
: 61 lb.ft (83 Nm)
- Install the RH brake hose and install the bolt.
Torque
: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Install the RH wheel. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .

- Install the roll restrictor and bracket in place and install the bolts.
Torque
: 63 lb.ft (85 Nm)
- Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the roll restrictor and bracket in place and install the bolts.

- Install the catalytic converter support brackets.
Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Install the catalytic converter support brackets.

NOTE: Bracket not shown.
Install the roll restrictor bolts.
Torque
: 92 lb.ft (125 Nm)

- Install the CAC hose and tighten the bolt and the nut.
Torque
: 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Tighten the hoses.
Torque
: 44 lb.in (5 Nm)
- Install the CAC hose and tighten the bolt and the nut.
- Tighten the starter.
Torque
: 30 lb.ft (40 Nm)
- Install the wiring bracket and install the nuts.
Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Install the bellhousing bolts.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the ground strap and the bolt. Connect the electrical connector and the wiring retainer.
Torque
: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Connect the gearshift cables. Refer to: Gearshift Cable Adjustment - 6-Speed Manual Transmission - MMT6

- Install the battery tray support bracket and the nuts. Connect the wiring retainers.
Torque
: 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- Install the battery tray. Refer to: Battery Tray .
- Install the air cleaner. Refer to: Air Cleaner .
- Fill the transmission. Refer to: Transmission Draining and Filling .
- Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Refer to: Clutch System Bleeding - 6-Speed Manual Transmission - MMT6

- After completing the repairs, perform the Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure. Use the General Equipment: Ford Diagnostic Equipment
