Valve Cover: Removal

NOTE:
During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan can cause engine failure.
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Remove the cowl panel grille. Refer to: Cowl Panel Grille .
- Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- Loosen the clamps, remove the nut and the upper air cleaner outlet pipe.

- Remove the retainers and the underbody shield reinforcement.
- Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.

- Disconnect the couplings and remove the PCV hose.
- Loosen the TC inlet pipe clamp.

- Remove the bolt, stud and the TC inlet pipe.
- Remove the oil level indicator.
- Remove the ignition coil-on-plugs. Refer to: IGNITION COIL-ON-PLUG .
- Disconnect the MAP and FRP sensor electrical connectors.
- Detach the retainers, disconnect the electrical connectors and position the wiring harness aside.

- Disconnect the vacuum tube quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
- Release the tab and position the EVAP canister purge valve aside.

NOTE: Early build vehicles equipped with metal vacuum tubes.
Detach the vacuum tube and wiring harness retainers.

NOTE: Late build vehicles equipped with nylon vacuum tubes.
Detach the vacuum tubes retainers.

- Remove the nut, bolt and disconnect the electrical connector and position the bracket aside.
- Remove the bolts and the valve cover.
- Remove and discard the valve cover gaskets.

NOTE: The VCT solenoid seals should only be replaced if they are damaged.
- Using the special tools, remove and inspect the VCT solenoid seals. Use Special Service Tool: 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle., 303-1247 VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer.
- Discard the VCT solenoid seals if they are damaged.
