Valve Cover: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. NOTE: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive discs or other abrasive means to clean the sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths.

    Make sure that the surface is clean and free of foreign material.

    Material

    : Motorcraft® Metal Surface Prep Wipes / ZC-31-B

  2. NOTE: Installation of new seals is only required if damaged seals were removed during disassembly of the engine.

    Using the special tools, install the VCT solenoid seals. Use Special Service Tool: 205-153 (T80T-4000-W) Handle., 303-1247 VCT Spark Plug Tube Seal Remover and Installer.

  3. Install the new valve cover gaskets.

  4. Apply a 5.5 mm (0.216 in) bead of silicone sealant.

    Material

    : Motorcraft® Silicone Gasket and Sealant / TA-30 (WSE-M4G323-A4)

  5. NOTE: The valve cover must be secured within 10 minutes of silicone gasket application. If the valve cover is not secured within 10 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with metal surface prep.

    Install the valve cover and the bolts in sequence shown.

    Material

    : Motorcraft® Metal Surface Prep Wipes / ZC-31-B

    Torque

    : 89 lb.in (10 Nm)

  6. Position the bracket and install the nut and the bolt. Connect the electrical connector.

    Torque

    :1: 89 lb.in (10 Nm) 2: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

    1. NOTE: Early build vehicles equipped with metal vacuum tubes.

      Attach the vacuum tubes and wiring harness retainers.

    2. NOTE: Late build vehicles equipped with nylon vacuum tubes.

      Attach the vacuum tubes retainers.

    • Install the EVAP canister purge valve.

  7. Position the wiring harness, attach the retainers and connect the electrical connectors.

  8. Connect the MAP and FRP sensor electrical connectors.

  9. Install the ignition coil-on-plugs. Refer to: IGNITION COIL-ON-PLUG .
    • Install the TC inlet pipe, stud and bolt.

      Torque

      : 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

    • Install the oil level indicator.

    • Install the PCV hose and connect the couplings.

    • Tighten the TC inlet pipe clamp.

      Torque

      : 44 lb.in (5 Nm)

    1. Install the underbody shield and the retainers.
    2. Install the underbody shield reinforcement and the retainers.

    • Install the upper air cleaner outlet pipe and the nut.

      Torque

      :1: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)

    • Tighten the upper air cleaner outlet pipe clamps.

  10. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
  11. Install the cowl panel grille. Refer to: Cowl Panel Grille .
