Removal And Installation: Camshafts: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.

NOTE: Do not loosen or remove the crankshaft pulley bolt without first installing the special tools. The crankshaft pulley and the crankshaft timing sprocket are not keyed to the crankshaft. Before any repair requiring loosening or removal of the crankshaft pulley bolt, the crankshaft and camshafts must be locked in place by the special service tools, otherwise severe engine damage can occur.

Release the fuel system pressure. Refer to: Fuel System Pressure Release .
Remove the following items:
1. Refer to: Brake Vacuum Pump - 1.0L EcoBoost (90kW/120PS) .
2. Refer to: Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) Unit .
Detach vacuum harness retainer.

Remove Special Service Tool: 303-1605 Alignment Tool, Camshaft.

NOTE: Note the position of the components before removal.

NOTE: Use a heat gun to soften the flange sealant, this will aid in the removal of the rear camshaft caps. Failure to follow these directions may result in damage to the camshaft caps.

NOTE: Inspect the camshaft bores for any scratches that can be felt by hand.

Loosen the camshaft bearing caps bolts in sequence, 2 turns at a time until all tension is released from the camshaft bearing caps and remove the bolts, caps and the camshafts. Use the General Equipment: Hot Air Gun
