Fuel Injectors: Removal
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
Do not work on the fuel system until the pressure has been released and the engine has cooled. Fuel in the high-pressure fuel system is hot and under very high pressure. High-pressure fuel may cause cuts and contact with hot fuel may cause burns. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
NOTE:
Fuel injection equipment is manufactured to very precise tolerances and fine clearances. To prevent fuel system damage, it is essential that absolute cleanliness is observed when working with these components.
- 1.
Position the hose aside, remove the oil filler cap and remove the engine appearance cover. Install the oil filler cap.
- 2.
Disconnect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect - Vehicles With: Dual Batteries .
- 5.
Remove the fuel injector fuel return line. Refer to: Fuel Injector Fuel Return Line .
- 6.NOTE: Use care to avoid any tool contact with the fuel injector actuator during the fuel injector supply tube removal or damage to the fuel injector may occur.NOTE: The fuel injector supply tube cannot be reused.NOTE: Use a back-up wrench on the fuel injector fittings.
Remove the fuel injector supply tubes for the fuel injectors that are being removed and discard.
- 7.NOTE: Do not use the actuator hollow screw and electrical connector housing for removal or damage to the fuel injectors will occur.NOTE: The PCM is programmed with an IQA code for each fuel injector. Note the fuel injector cylinder location for installation.
Remove the fuel injector clamp bolts for the fuel injectors that are being removed. Remove the fuel injector clamps for the fuel injectors that are being removed, then the fuel injectors.
- 8.NOTE: If any of the fuel injector sealing washers remained in the injector cylinder head bore, be sure to remove and discard the sealing washers.
