Starter Motor: Removal
NOTE:
Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to: Battery Disconnect and Connect .
- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview .
- Disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector. Remove the bolt and then remove the MAP sensor.
Torque: 27 lb.in (3 Nm)
- Detach the wire harness retainers and the hose retainer.
- If equipped, Remove the retainers and the underbody shield.
- Disconnect the oil pressure switch electrical connector. Remove the bolts, then position the oil filter adapter and oil cooler assembly aside.
Torque: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)
- Remove and discard the oil filter adapter gasket.
- Detach the wire harness retainer.
- Remove the starter motor bracket retaining nuts and the remove the starter motor bracket.
Torque: 159 lb.in (18 Nm)

- Remove the starter motor solenoid battery cable nut and then disconnect the starter motor solenoid battery cable.
Torque: 106 lb.in (12 Nm)
- Remove the starter motor solenoid control wire nut and then disconnect the starter motor solenoid control wire.
Torque: 53 lb.in (6 Nm)
- Remove the starter motor solenoid battery cable nut and then disconnect the starter motor solenoid battery cable.
- Remove the starter motor studbolts and then remove the starter motor.
Torque: 26 lb.ft (35 Nm)
- Inspect the starter motor drive gear and the flexplate or flywheel ring gear. Refer to: Starter Motor Drive Gear and Flywheel Ring Gear Inspection .
