Removal And Installation: Turbocharger: Removal

All vehicles 

• 1.
  
  Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to: Catalytic Converter .

• 2.
  
  Drain the cooling system. Refer to: Cooling System Draining, Vacuum Filling And Bleeding .

• 3.
  
  Remove the right front tire. Refer to: Wheel and Tire .

• 4.
  
  

  • 1.
    
    Remove the turbocharger outlet pipe retaining nuts.

  • 2.
    
    Loosen the turbocharger outlet pipe clamps and then remove the turbocharger outlet pipe.

  • 1.
    
    Disconnect the quick release coupling. Refer to: Quick Release Coupling .
  • Remove the turbocharger inlet tube retainers. Loosen the clamp and then remove turbocharger inlet tube.

  • Release the turbocharger coolant tube clamps, loosen the retaining bolts and then remove the turbocharger cooling tube assembly.
  • Remove and discard the turbocharge coolant tube linked sealing washers.

  Remove the turbocharger heat shield bolts and then remove the turbocharger heat shield.

  Disconnect the turbocharger electrical connector and disconnect the turbocharger control hoses.

  • Remove the turbocharger oil supply tube retaining bolts and then remove the turbocharger oil supply tube.
  • Remove and discard the turbocharger oil feed tube sealing washers.

  NOTE: Make sure that a new turbocharger oil supply filter is installed.

  Remove and discard the turbocharger oil filter.

  NOTE: Make sure that a new turbocharger oil drain tube is installed. By not doing so, the turbocharger oil drain tube may leak and cause engine damage.

  Remove the turbocharger oil return tube bolts and then remove the turbocharger oil return tube.

AWD (all-wheel drive) vehicles

  Remove the engine mount. Refer to: Engine Mount .

• 13.
  
  Lower the jack and position the engine forward as needed to allow for the removal of the turbocharger.

    Detach the vacuum tubes. Early build vehicles equipped with metal vacuum tubes.

  • 2.
    
    Detach the vacuum tubes. Late build vehicles equipped with nylon vacuum tubes.

  NOTE: The turbocharger on AWD vehicles can be removed out the top after lowering the engine. The turbocharger on FWD vehicle can be removed out the bottom.

  Remove and discard the turbocharger mounting nuts, then remove the turbocharger.

  If needed, remove the turbocharger coolant tube from the turbocharger.

  If the turbocharger coolant tube was removed from the turbocharger, remove and discard the linked sealing washers.

  Remove and discard the turbocharger mounting studs and the turbocharger gasket.
