Pinpoint Test E: The Temperature Gauge Is Inoperative

E1 CHECK THE LCD (LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY) INTEGRATED DISPLAY OPERATION
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the IPC LCD (LCD_SEG_DISPL) PID .
- Command the LCD on while monitoring the LCD integrated display.
Does the LCD integrated display operate when commanded on?
- Yes : GO to E2
- No : GO to PINPOINT TEST A
E2 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes : REFER to DTC CHART: IPC .
- No : GO to E3
E3 PERFORM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes : Refer to ENGINE CONTROLS - INTRODUCTION (EXCEPT DIESEL & HYBRID) (SECTION 0) .
- No : GO to E4
E4 CHECK THE ENGINE OVER-TEMPERATURE WARNING INDICATOR OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Monitor the engine over-temperature indicator operation during the prove-out.
- Ignition ON.
- Start the engine.
- Monitor the engine over-temperature indicator operation with the engine running after the bulb prove-out (approximately 3 seconds).
Does the engine over-temperature indicator prove-out and operate correctly following the bulb prove-out?
- Yes : INSTALL a new PCM . For 1.6L TiVCT engine,
  REFER to: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
  
  For 1.6L GTDI engine, REFER to: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
