Pinpoint Test C: The Tachometer Is Inoperative
- C1 PERFORM THE IPC (INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) SELF-TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes : REFER to DTC CHART: IPC .
- No : GO to C2
- C2 PERFORM THE PCM (POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE) KOEO (KEY ON, ENGINE OFF) SELF-TEST
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes : Refer to ENGINE CONTROLS - INTRODUCTION (EXCEPT DIESEL & HYBRID) (SECTION 0) .
- No : GO to C3
- C3 PERFORM THE TACHOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view the IPC Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the IPC tachometer (TACH_IND) active command.
- Command the tachometer on then off while monitoring the tachometer.
Does the tachometer begin at 0 rpm, increase to 7, 000 rpm and return to 0 rpm?
- Yes
: INSTALL a new PCM
. For 1.6L TiVCT engine,
REFER to: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
For 1.6L GTDI engine, REFER to: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
- No
: INSTALL a new IPC
