Condition Possible Sources Action
  • All the chimes are inoperative
  • IC
  • VERIFY the IC gauges and indicators function correctly.
    • If the IC gauges and indicators do not function correctly, GO to PINPOINT TEST A .
    • If the IC gauges and indicators function correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The chime sounds when the driver door is ajar (no key in ignition and headlamps off)
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Key-in-ignition switch (part of the ignition switch)
  • IC
  • The key-in-ignition warning chime is inoperative
  • Door ajar indication concern
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors

    • If the door ajar warning indicator operates correctly, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
  • The safety belt warning chime does not operate correctly
  • Safety belt warning indication concern

  • RETRIEVE the recorded IC DTCs from the continuous and on-demand self-tests.
    • If IC DTC B1868 is present, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • If IC DTC B1868 is not present, the system is operating correctly. The air bag secondary warning chime sounds only when a fault in the air bag warning indicator is present and DTC B1868 is recorded.
