The Key-In-Ignition Warning Chime Is Inoperative

  1. AZ1 CHECK THE SAFETY BELT WARNING CHIME OPERATION
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Monitor the safety belt warning chime when the ignition switch is transitioned from OFF to RUN for 6 seconds.

Does the safety belt warning chime operate for approximately 6 seconds?

    1. Yes  : GO to AZ2
    2. No  : INSTALL a new IPC  .

REFER to: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)  .

  2. AZ2 CHECK THE INTERIOR LAMPS OPERATION
    • Open and close the driver door.
    • Observe the interior lamps.

Do the interior lamps operate correctly from the driver door?

    1. Yes  : GO to AZ3
    2. No  : REFER to: INTERIOR LIGHTING .
  3. AZ3 CHECK THE GWM (GATEWAY MODULE A) DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS)
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, check the GWM  Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?

    1. Yes  : REFER to: COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
    2. No  : GO to AZ4
  4. AZ4 PERFORM THE BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) SELF-TEST
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the BCM  self-test.

    Is DTC B10F1:14 present?

    1. Yes  : GO to AZ5
    2. No  : GO to  AZ9
  5. AZ5 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Insert the key into the ignition cylinder.
    • Disconnect BCM C2280G  .
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C2280G-38  VOLTAGE Ground

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

    1. Yes  : GO to  AZ9
    2. No  : GO to AZ6
  6. AZ6 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
    • Remove the key from the ignition cylinder.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C2280G-38  OHM Ground

Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?

    1. Yes  : GO to AZ7
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  7. AZ7 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR OPEN
    • Disconnect Ignition Switch C250  .
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement/Action Negative Lead
      C2280G-38  OHM C250-5

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

    1. Yes  : GO to AZ8
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit.
  8. AZ8 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH
    • Remove the ignition switch.

      REFER to: IGNITION SWITCH .

    • Perform the ignition switch component test.

    Is the ignition switch OK?

    1. Yes  : INSTALL a new ignition lock cylinder housing.

REFER to: IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER HOUSING .

    2. No  : INSTALL a new ignition switch.

REFER to: STEERING COLUMN MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH LH .

  9. AZ9 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect all BCM  connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the BCM  connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present

    Is the concern still present?

    1. Yes  : CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB  exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB  instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM  .

REFER to: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .

    2. No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
