Pinpoint Test Q: The RKE Transmitter Is Inoperative (Without IA)
NOTE:
All the customer RKE transmitters need to be present when diagnosing the RKE system.
- Q1 CHECK ALL THE BUTTONS ON THE SUSPECT RKE TRANSMITTER
- Press each button on the RKE transmitter (twice for the liftgate release).
- Do any of the functions operate?
- Yes : GO to PINPOINT TEST S .
- No : GO to Q2.
- Q2 CHECK FOR THE CORRECT RKE TRANSMITTERS
- Check that the correct RKE transmitters are used with the vehicle.
- Are the correct RKE transmitters present?
- Yes : GO to Q3.
- No : The system cannot be tested without the correct RKE transmitters. INFORM the customer the correct RKE transmitters must be present to proceed with diagnosis of the system.
- Q3 CHECK FOR DTC B1D21:62 FROM THE BCM SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.
- Is DTC B1D21:62 present?
- Q4 RESYNCHRONIZE THE RKE TRANSMITTER
- Ignition OFF.
- Within close proximity of the vehicle, press any of the buttons 3 consecutive times within 30 seconds.
- Observe the vehicle for audible or visual feedback.
- Does the RKE transmitter now function?
- Yes : The system is OK. The concern was cause by an RKE transmitter out of synchronization.
- No : GO to Q6.
- Q5 RESYNCHRONIZE THE INOPERATIVE RKE TRANSMITTER
- Ignition OFF.
- Press any button on the functioning RKE transmitter and activate the locks or the liftgate release.
- Within 30 seconds of activating the locks or the liftgate release, press a button on the non-functioning RKE transmitter.
- Observe the vehicle for audible or visual feedback.
- Does the suspect RKE transmitter now function?
- Yes : The system is OK. The concern was cause by an RKE transmitter out of synchronization.
- No : GO to Q6.
- Q6 CHECK THE RKE TRANSMITTER BATTERY
- Using a thin coin, open the RKE transmitter.
- Do not clean off any grease from the battery terminals on the back surface of the circuit board.
- Verify the correct battery is used (CR2032).
- Remove the RKE transmitter battery and measure the voltage.
- Is the voltage greater than 2.5 volts?
- Yes : GO to Q7.
- No : INSTALL a new battery (make sure the battery is seated correctly). DO NOT reprogram the RKE transmitter (weak or dead batteries do not erase TICs from memory).
- Q7 PROGRAM THE SUSPECT RKE TRANSMITTER NOTE: Any RKE transmitter not present is erased from the BCM memory during the RKE transmitter programming procedure.
- Program the inoperative RKE transmitter. Refer to REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING .
- Press the lock and then the unlock buttons on the suspect RKE transmitter.
- Do the doors lock and then unlock?
- Yes : The system is OK. The concern was caused by an unprogrammed RKE transmitter.
- No : GO to Q8.
- Q8 PROGRAM A KNOWN GOOD RKE TRANSMITTERS (KEY FOB) NOTE: Any RKE transmitter not present is erased from the BCM memory during the RKE transmitter programming procedure.
- Program a known good RKE transmitter. Refer to REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING .
- Press the lock and then the unlock buttons on the known good RKE transmitter.
- Do the doors lock and then unlock?
- Yes
: REPLACE the suspect RKE transmitter.
If the suspect RKE transmitter is an IKT, ERASE and PROGRAM the keys. REFER to ANTI-THEFT - PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS), WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) .
If the suspect RKE transmitter is a key fob, PROGRAM the RKE transmitter. REFER to REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING .
- No : GO to Q9.
- Q9 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION
- Disconnect and inspect all the BCM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES .
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
