Pinpoint Test L: Output Shaft Speed Sensor

  1. L1 READ AND RECORD ALL DTCS 
    • Connect the scan tool.
    • Read and record all DTCs.
    • Were DTCs P0720, P0721, P0722 and/or P0715 set? 
    • Yes  : For DTCs P0720, P0721 and P0722, GO to L2.

      For DTC P0720 and P0715, GO to  L7.

    • No  : GO to SYMPTOM CHART .
  2. L2 CHECK OSS SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Transmission Vehicle Harness C168.
    • Disconnect: PCM C175T.
    • Inspect the connectors for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
    • Measure the resistance  between:
      Positive Lead Negative Lead
      Pin Circuit Pin Circuit
      C168-10 VET26 (BN/GN) C175T-25 VET26 (BN/GNG)

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to L3.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs.
  3. L3 CHECK OSS SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance  between:
      Positive Lead Negative Lead
      Pin Circuit Pin Circuit
      C168-10 VET26 (BN/GN) - Ground

    • Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 
  4. L4 CHECK OSS SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO POWER 
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage  between:
      Positive Lead Negative Lead
      Pin Circuit Pin Circuit
      C168-10 VET24 (BN/GN) - Ground

    • Is any voltage present? 
  5. L5 CHECK THE OSS SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Connect: PCM C175T.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage  between:
      Positive Lead Negative Lead
      Pin Circuit Pin Circuit
      C168-20 LE111 (VT/GN) C168-9 VET24 (BN/GN)

    • Is voltage less than 4.8 volts? 
  6. L6 CHECK THE SOLENOID BODY SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Remove the main control cover. REFER to MAIN CONTROL COVER .
    • Disconnect: OSS Sensor.
    • Measure the component side resistance  between:
      Positive Lead Negative Lead
      Pin Circuit Pin Circuit
      10 - 1 -

    • Is the resistance greater than 0.5 ohms? 
  7. L7 CHECK OSS SENSOR VPWR CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN 
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Transmission Vehicle Harness C168.
    • Inspect the connectors for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure the voltage  between:
      Positive Lead Negative Lead
      Pin Circuit Pin Circuit
      C168-20 LE111 (VT/GN) - Ground

    • Is the voltage less than 9.5 volts?
