Pinpoint Test A: The IPC Is Inoperative
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2012 Ford Pickup, 2012 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2012 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2012 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
- A1 CHECK THE IPC HOT AT ALL TIMES VOLTAGE SUPPLY
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: IPC C220.
- Measure the voltage between the IPC C220-6, circuit SBP11 (BU/RD or YE/RD), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to A2.
- No : VERIFY the BCM fuse 11 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit SBP11 (BU/RD or YE/RD) for an open. If not OK, REFER to the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A2 CHECK THE IPC GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the voltage between the IPC C220-6, circuit SBP11 (BU/RD or YE/RD), harness side and the IPC C220-22, circuit GD184 (BK/GY or BK/YE), harness side.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
- Yes : GO to A3.
- No : REPAIR circuit GD184 (BK/GY or BK/YE) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A3 VERIFY THE IPC PASSES THE NETWORK TEST
- Connect: IPC C220.
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- In the LH pane of the Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) network test display screen, verify whether the IPC passed the network test.
- Did the IPC pass the network test?
- Yes : GO to A4.
- No : To diagnose the IPC does not respond to the scan tool, REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
- A4 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC OPERATION
- Disconnect the IPC connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the IPC connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes : INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
- No : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
