Pinpoint Test D : TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) Sensor

  1. D1 DRIVE CYCLE TEST

    NOTE: Read and record all DTCs.
    NOTE: If DTCs P0705, P0706, P0707, P0708, P0709, P1702, P1705 and/or P1921 are set, diagnose those DTCs first.

    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode: PID TSS_SRC.
    • Monitor the PID TSS_SRC while road testing the vehicle. Drive the vehicle so the transmission upshifts and downshifts through all the gears.

    Does the TSS sensor rpm increase and decrease with engine rpm and vehicle speed? 

    Yes  The TSS sensor is operating correctly at this time.
    No  GO to  D2

  2. D2 CHECK FOR OSS DTCS

    • Ignition ON.
    • Enter the following diagnostic mode: PCM Self-Test.

    Are OSS DTCs P0720, P0721, or P0722 present? 

    Yes  GO to  D3
    No  GO to  D7

  3. D3 CHECK TSS/OSS POWER CIRCUIT FOR POWER

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Transmission Vehicle Harness C1575
    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      		 Ground

    Is the voltage less than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  D4
    No  GO to  D6

  4. D4 CHECK THE TSS/OSS POWER CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      		 Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  D5
    No  INSPECT and REPAIR transmission vehicle harness TSS/ OSS power circuit for a short to ground.

  5. D5 CHECK THE TSS/OSS POWER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new PCM, REFER to: POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) . PROGRAM the PCM with the latest calibration level. PERFORM the Solenoid Body Strategy Data Download procedure. Refer to: Transmission Strategy Download .
    No  REPAIR the circuit.

  6. D6 CHECK THE TSS/OSS SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new molded leadframe, REFER to: Shift Solenoids (SS) . CLEAR the DTCs.
    No  GO to  D7

  7. D7 CHECK THE TSS SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Transmission Vehicle Harness C1575 (If not already disconnected)
    • Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  D8
    No  INSPECT and REPAIR transmission vehicle harness TSS sensor signal circuit for an open or high resistance.

  8. D8 CHECK THE TSS SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      		 Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  D9
    No  INSPECT and REPAIR transmission vehicle harness TSS sensor signal circuit for a short to ground.

  9. D9 CHECK THE TSS SENSOR SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO POWER -

    • Disconnect: PCM C1551E (If not already disconnected).
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      		 Ground

    Is any voltage detected? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  INSTALL a new molded leadframe, REFER to: Shift Solenoids (SS) . CLEAR the DTCs.
