Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern by operating the power seat, memory seat or climate controlled seat functions.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical and electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Switch(es)
    • Seat tracks obstructed or damaged
    • Lumbar assembly damaged
    • Recliner assembly damaged (backrest frame)
    • Thermo-Electric Device (TED) assembly filter dirty (cushion or backrest)
    • Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse(s):
      • 14 (30A) (passenger seat control switch)
      • 69 (30A) (Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) and front heated seat module)
      • 71 (20A) (rear heated seat module)
      • 74 (30A) (driver seat control switch)
    • Body Control Module (BCM) fuse(s):
      • 5 (20A) (Driver Seat Module (DSM) and front heated seat module)
      • 7 (7.5A) (DSM logic)
      • 33 (10A) (front heated seat module and rear heated seat module)
    • Wiring harness
    • Loose or corroded connector(s)
    • Seat control switch
    • Memory SET switch
    • Heated seat switch(es)
    • Power seat motor (seat track)
    • Power lumbar motor (lumbar assembly)
    • TED assembly (cushion or backrest)
    • Power recliner motor (backrest frame)
    • DSM
    • DCSM
    • Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM)
    • HVAC module
    • Seat cushion heater mat
    • Seat backrest heater mat
    • Heated seat module
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. If the concern is with the power seat (non-memory seat), power lumbar or heated seat(s) and the cause is not visually evident, verify the symptom and GO to SYMPTOM CHART .
  5. If the concern is with the memory seat or climate controlled seat and the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
    6. NOTE: The Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) LED prove out confirms voltage and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
  6. If the scan tool does not communicate with the VCM:
    • check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
    • check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
    • REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK , No Power To The Scan Tool, to diagnose no power to the scan tool.
  7. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • verify the ignition is in the ON position.
    • verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
    • REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK to diagnose no response from the PCM.
  8. Carry out the network test.
    • If the scan tool responds with no communication for one or more modules, REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK .
    • If the network test passes, retrieve and record on-demand and Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Codes (CMDTCs).
  9. Clear the CMDTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the DSM or DCSM.
  10. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to Driver Seat Module (DSM) DTC Chart , DTC Charts  or Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) DTC Chart . For all other DTCs, REFER to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES .
  11. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to SYMPTOM CHART .
