Yes GO to Pinpoint Test B No If one or more of the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) from the DTC Fault Trigger Conditions table is present, GO to E3
For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), GO to DTC Chart: Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) Module . - E3 CHECK THE ACTUATOR MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect EPB module C3675 .
- For the LH actuator motor, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4478-1 C3675-29 C4478-2 C3675-14
- For the RH actuator motor, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4479-1 C3675-27 C4479-2 C3675-12
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to E4 No REPAIR the circuit. - E4 CHECK THE ACTUATOR MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- For the LH actuator motor, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4478-1 Ground C4478-2 Ground
- For the RH actuator motor, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4479-1 Ground C4479-2 Ground
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to E5 No REPAIR the circuit. - For the LH actuator motor, measure:
- E5 CHECK THE ACTUATOR MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
- For the LH actuator motor, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4478-1 C4478-2
- For the RH actuator motor, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4479-1 C4479-2
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to E6 No REPAIR the circuit. - For the LH actuator motor, measure:
- E6 CHECK THE ACTUATOR MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGENOTE: Performing this step sets Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in the EPB module.
- Ignition ON.
- For the LH actuator motor, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4478-1 Ground C4478-2 Ground
- For the RH actuator motor, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4479-1 Ground C4479-2 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit. No GO to E7 - E7 CHECK THE BRAKE CALIPER SPINDLE DRIVE
- Ignition OFF.
- Remove the suspect actuator motor. REFER to: Parking Brake Actuator Motor .
- Using a torque wrench, turn the spindle drive on the brake caliper clockwise. It should not take more than 1.5 NM (13 lb-in) to turn the spindle drive.
Does the spindle drive turn with less than 1.5 NM (13 lb-in) or turning force?
Yes GO to E8 No INSTALL a new brake caliper. REFER to: Brake Caliper - Vehicles With: Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) . - E8 VERIFY ALL WIRING CONNECTIONS
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect EPB module C3675 (if not previously disconnected).
- Disconnect all in-line electrical connectors between the EPB module and the suspect parking brake actuator motor.
- Using a good light source, inspect all
disconnected electrical connectors for the following:
- corrosion - install new connector or terminal and clean the module pins
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals or pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- spread terminals - install new terminals as necessary
Are the connectors free of corrosion, damaged pins, bent pins, pushed-out pins and spread terminals?
Yes GO to E9 No REPAIR the connector or terminals. Refer to Connector Repair Procedures for schematic and connector information. - E9 CHECK FOR CORRECT EPB (ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE) MODULE OPERATION
- Connect all in-line electrical connectors between the EPB module and the suspect parking brake actuator motor. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Connect EPB module C3675 . Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes GO to E10 No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. - E10 CHECK THE ACTUATOR MOTOR RESISTANCE
- Ignition OFF.
- For the LH actuator motor, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4478-1
Component SideC4478-2
Component Side
- For the RH actuator motor, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C4479-1
Component SideC4479-2
Component Side
Is the resistance less than 500 ohms?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new EPB module. REFER to: Park Brake Control Module (PBM) . No INSTALL a new parking brake actuator motor.
