Pump Assembly: Assembly

- Install the converter clutch control valve, cooler bypass valve and thermostat valve, converter pressure limit valve, converter anti-drain back valve and the main regulator valve.
- Install the main regulator boost valve spring, plug and install the retainer clip.
- Install the converter anti-drain back valve, spring, plug and install the retainer clip.
- Install the converter pressure limit valve, spring, plug and install the retainer clip.
- Install the thermostat spring and valve.
- Install the cooler bypass valve, plug and clip.
- Install the converter clutch control valve, spring, plug and install the retainer clip.
- Install the gerotor gearset with both dots facing up.
- Using the Depth Micrometer, measure the pump gear-to-pump body clearance.
- Install the separator plate.
- Using the Transmission Fluid Pump Alignment Pins and Transmission Pump Banding Tool, assemble the control body and stator assembly onto the pump gear body.
- Assemble the pump and loosely install the bolts. Check that the outer edges of the pump body and the bolt holes are aligned.
- Tighten to 31 Nm (23 lb-ft).
- Lubricate with transmission fluid and install a new O/D piston.
- Install the O/D piston return spring.
- Tighten to 29 Nm (21 lb-ft).
- Install new pump seals.
- Coat the seal with transmission fluid and install the pump outer diameter square-cut front pump seal with the white stripe facing out.
- Using the Front Pump Fluid Seal Installer, install a new front pump seal.
- Install a new front pump stator support seal.
- Install the No. 1 pump thrust washer and the No. 2A O/D sun gear thrust bearing.
NOTE:
All the valves must drop into their bores freely without hanging up.
NOTE:
Prior to installation, lightly lubricate the pump gears with transmission fluid.
NOTE:
Inspect mating surfaces of the pump body and the control body to make sure they are clean and free of nicks and burrs.
NOTE:
Note the location of the Transmission Fluid Pump Alignment Pins. The Transmission Fluid Pump Alignment Pins should be installed at 1 o'clock and 7 o'clock with the pump filter inlet sump at 6 o'clock. The Transmission Fluid Pump Alignment Pins should move freely when installing the band strap.
NOTE:
Make sure that the outer edges of the pump body and the outer bolt holes are aligned during assembly.
NOTE:
Install the No. 2A O/D sun gear thrust bearing with the dark side facing up.
NOTE:
Lightly lubricate the thrust washer and the bearing with petroleum jelly to hold them in place during assembly.
