Engine Front Cover: Installation

NOTE: Do not use metal scrapers, wire brushes, power abrasive disks or other abrasive means to clean sealing surfaces. These tools cause scratches and gouges which make leak paths.

Clean and inspect the mounting surfaces of the engine and the front cover.

: Motorcraft® Metal Surface Prep / ZC-31-B

NOTE: The engine front cover must be secured within 10 minutes of Silicone Gasket and Sealant application. If the engine front cover is not secured within 10 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with Motorcraft Metal Surface Prep.

Apply beads of Silicone Gasket and Sealant that are 15 mm in diameter across the cylinder head and cylinder block joint areas.

NOTE: The engine front cover must be secured within 10 minutes of Silicone Gasket and Sealant application. If the engine front cover is not secured within 10 minutes, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned with Motorcraft Metal Surface Prep.
- Apply beads of silicone sealant that are 2 mm around the inner bolt holes.

- Apply a bead of silicone sealant that are 3 mm on the edge of the engine front cover

  Install the engine front cover and the bolts finger tight.
- 2.
  
  If equipped, install the bolt finger tight.

Tighten the engine front cover bolts in sequence shown in illustration.
- Tighten bolts 1 through 17 to:
  Torque
  
  : 89 lb.in (10 Nm)
- Tighten bolts 18 through 21 to:
  Torque
  
  : 35 lb.ft (48 Nm)
- If equipped, tighten bolt 22 to:
  Torque
  
  : 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

- Install the engine mount and the bolts.
  Torque
  
  : 66 lb.ft (90 Nm)
- Install the engine mounting nuts.
  Torque
  
  : 59 lb.ft (80 Nm)

Position back the A/C suction tube.

NOTE: Use a new O-ring seal.

Using a new O-ring seal, connect the A/C suction tube and tighten the nut.

Torque

: 133 lb.in (15 Nm)

Install the coolant pump pulley and the bolts finger tight.

10.

Install the accessory drive belt tensioner and the bolts.
Torque

: 18 lb.ft (25 Nm)

Install the crankshaft front seal. REFER to: Crankshaft Front Seal .

12.

Remove the engine support bar.
Remove Special Service Tool: 303-F072 Support Bar, Engine.

13.

Install the cowl panel grille. REFER to: Cowl Panel Grille .

14.

Tighten the coolant pump pulley bolts.
Torque

: 177 lb.in (20 Nm)

Position back the degas bottle.

Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. REFER to: Air Conditioning (A/C) System Recovery, Evacuation and Charging .
