Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE IA KEY LOCATION
    1. Check the location of the IA key and if it is placed in the far corners of the interior of the vehicle, move the IA key out of these areas and attempt to start the vehicle.

    Does the vehicle start? 

    • Yes: The system is OK. INFORM the customer of the normal vehicle operation.
    • No: GO to .
  2. CHECK FOR ENVIRONMENTAL INTERFERENCE
    1. Check for the use of any charger or other wireless device that can cause interference with the IA key. If any device is found, remove the device and attempt to start the engine.

    Does the engine start? 

    • Yes: INFORM the customer of the cause of the concern and the normal operation of the vehicle.
    • No: GO to .
  3. CHECK THE SUSPECT PASSIVE START ANTENNA
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Suspect Passive Start Antenna.
    3. Measure:

    Is the resistance between 1 and 10 ohms? 

  4. CHECK THE PASSIVE START ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Disconnect: RFA Module C2153A.
    2. Place an IA key in the backup slot and press the START/STOP switch to switch the ignition to ON.
    3. For a front antenna, measure:

    Is any voltage present? 

    • Yes: GO to .
    • No: REPAIR the affected circuit.
  5. CHECK THE PASSIVE START ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. For a front antenna, measure:

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    • Yes: GO to .
    • No: REPAIR the affected circuit.
  6. CHECK THE PASSIVE START ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
    1. For a front antenna, measure:

    2. For a center antenna, measure:

    3. For a rear antenna, measure:

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    • Yes: GO to .
    • No: REPAIR the affected circuit.
  7. CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA MODULE OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect and inspect all RFA module connectors.
    3. Repair:
      • corrosion, (install new connectors or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    4. Reconnect all the RFA module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    • Yes: CHECK OASIS  for any applicable TSBs  . If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and follow TSB instructions. If no TSBs  address this concern, INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to REMOTE FUNCTION ACTUATOR (RFA) MODULE .
    • No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
