SYMPTOM CHART: PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS)

Condition Possible Sources Actions
  • The engine only starts with the key in the backup slot and no DTCs  present
  • IA key battery
  • IA programmable parameter
  • ATTEMPT to start the engine using 2 different IA keys, one at a time. Place an IA key on top of the center console and push the start/stop switch and brake.
    • If the engine starts with only one of the keys on top of the center console, INSTALL a new battery in the inoperative IA key.
    • If the engine does not start with either key on top of the center console, ENABLE the IA feature with a scan tool.
  • The vehicle does not start with the IA key in certain areas within the vehicle
  • Wiring, terminals or connectors
  • Front passive start antenna
  • Center passive start antenna
  • Rear passive start antenna
  • RFA module
  • The engine does not start or unable to turn ignition on
  • Starting system concern
  • Driveability concern
  • PATS concern
  • STARTING SYSTEM FAULT is displayed in the message center
  • PATS concern
  • NO KEY DETECTED is displayed in the message center
  • Environmental interference
  • IA key
  • IA key battery
  • IA key not programmed
