Pinpoint Test

  1. CARRY OUT THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, view the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
    3. Select the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) brake warning indicator (PBA_LMP) Parameter Identification (PID). Command the brake warning indicator on and off. Observe the brake warning indicator.
    • Does the brake warning indicator turn off when commanded off? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 2.
    2. No:  INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
  2. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) self-test.
    • Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 
    1. Yes:  For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0140:00, REFER to Diagnostic Routine AV .

      For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0121:00, REFER to Diagnostic Routine AU .

      For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to DTC CHART: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .

    2. No:  GO to on page 2.
  3. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) MODULE SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module self-test.
    • Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 
    1. Yes:  REFER to DTC CHART: ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE .
    2. No:  GO to on page 2.
  4. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Body Control Module (BCM) SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the Body Control Module (BCM) self-test.
    • Is Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1048:01 recorded? 
    1. Yes:  GO to  8 on page 4.
    2. No:  GO to on page 2.
  5. CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR SWITCH Parameter Identification (PID) (PARK_BRK_SW)
    1. Using a scan tool, view the Body Control Module (BCM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
    2. Select the Body Control Module (BCM) parking brake (PARK_BRK_SW) Parameter Identification (PID).
    3. Monitor the parking brake Parameter Identification (PID) while applying and releasing the parking brake.
    • Does the Parameter Identification (PID) agree with the parking brake position? 
    1. Yes:  GO to  12 on page 6.
    2. No:  GO to on page 3.
  6. CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR SWITCH
    1. Disconnect: Parking Brake Position Switch.
    2. Using a scan tool, view the Body Control Module (BCM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
    3. Select the Body Control Module (BCM) parking brake (PARK_BRK_SW) Parameter Identification (PID).
    4. Monitor the parking brake Parameter Identification (PID).
    • Does the Parameter Identification (PID) indicate the parking brake is released or off? 
    1. Yes:  INSTALL a new parking brake position switch.
    2. No:  GO to on page 3.
  7. CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Body Control Module (BCM) C2280C.
    3. Measure:

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to  12 on page 6.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. CHECK THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR USING THE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH INPUT
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Brake Fluid Level Switch.
    3. Connect a fused jumper wire:

    4. Ignition ON.
    • Does the brake warning indicator turn off? 
    1. Yes:  REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new brake fluid level switch.
    2. No:  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to on page 4.
  9. CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Body Control Module (BCM) C2280F.
    3. Measure:

    • Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to 10  on page 5.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  10. CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Measure:

    • Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to 11  on page 6.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  11. CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH INPUT AND RETURN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
    1. Measure:

    • Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to 12  on page 6.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  12. CHECK FOR CORRECT Body Control Module (BCM) OPERATION
  1. Ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect and inspect all Body Control Module (BCM) connectors.
  3. Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  4. Reconnect the Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
  1. Yes:  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Body Control Module (BCM). REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITH INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) or REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) .
  2. No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
