Pinpoint Test
- CARRY OUT THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, view the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) brake warning indicator (PBA_LMP) Parameter Identification (PID). Command the brake warning indicator on and off. Observe the brake warning indicator.
- Does the brake warning indicator turn off when commanded off?
- Yes: GO to 2 on page 2.
- No: INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
- RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) self-test.
- Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes:
For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0140:00, REFER to Diagnostic Routine AV .
For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0121:00, REFER to Diagnostic Routine AU .
For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to DTC CHART: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
- No: GO to 3 on page 2.
- RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) MODULE SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module self-test.
- Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes: REFER to DTC CHART: ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE .
- No: GO to 4 on page 2.
- RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Body Control Module (BCM) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Body Control Module (BCM) self-test.
- Is Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B1048:01 recorded?
- Yes: GO to 8 on page 4.
- No: GO to 5 on page 2.
- CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR SWITCH Parameter Identification (PID) (PARK_BRK_SW)
- Using a scan tool, view the Body Control Module (BCM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the Body Control Module (BCM) parking brake (PARK_BRK_SW) Parameter Identification (PID).
- Monitor the parking brake Parameter Identification (PID) while applying and releasing the parking brake.
- Does the Parameter Identification (PID) agree with the parking brake position?
- Yes: GO to 12 on page 6.
- No: GO to 6 on page 3.
- CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR SWITCH
- Disconnect: Parking Brake Position Switch.
- Using a scan tool, view the Body Control Module (BCM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the Body Control Module (BCM) parking brake (PARK_BRK_SW) Parameter Identification (PID).
- Monitor the parking brake Parameter Identification (PID).
- Does the Parameter Identification (PID) indicate the parking brake is released or off?
- Yes: INSTALL a new parking brake position switch.
- No: GO to 7 on page 3.
- CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Body Control Module (BCM) C2280C.
- Measure:

- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 12 on page 6.
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR USING THE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH INPUT
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Brake Fluid Level Switch.
- Connect a fused jumper wire:
- Ignition ON.
- Does the brake warning indicator turn off?
- Yes: REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new brake fluid level switch.
- No: REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to 9 on page 4.
- CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Body Control Module (BCM) C2280F.
- Measure:

- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 10 on page 5.
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Measure:

- Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 11 on page 6.
- No: REPAIR the circuit.
- CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH INPUT AND RETURN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure:

- Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
- Yes: GO to 12 on page 6.
- No: REPAIR the circuit in question.
- CHECK FOR CORRECT Body Control Module (BCM) OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all Body Control Module (BCM) connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes: CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Body Control Module (BCM). REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITH INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) or REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) .
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
