Pinpoint Test

  1. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) self-test.
    • Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 
    1. Yes:  REFER to DTC CHART: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
    2. No:  GO to on page 2.
  2. DETERMINE IF THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR OPERATES WITH THE PARKING BRAKE
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Apply the parking brake while monitoring the brake warning indicator.
    • Does the brake warning indicator illuminate with the parking brake applied? 
    1. Yes:  GO to  8 on page 5.
    2. No:  GO to on page 2.
  3. CARRY OUT THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, view the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
    3. Select the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) brake warning indicator (PBA_LMP) Parameter Identification (PID). Command the brake warning indicator on and observe the brake warning indicator.
    • Does the brake warning indicator illuminate when commanded on? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 2.
    2. No:  INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
  4. CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR SWITCH Parameter Identification (PID)
    1. Using a scan tool, view the Body Control Module (BCM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
    2. Select the Body Control Module (BCM) parking brake (PARK_BRK_SW) Parameter Identification (PID). Monitor the parking brake Parameter Identification (PID) while applying the parking brake.
    • Does the Parameter Identification (PID) agree with the parking brake position? 
    1. Yes:  GO to  11 on page 6.
    2. No:  GO to on page 2.
  5. CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE POSITION SWITCH
    1. Disconnect: Parking Brake Position Switch.
    2. Connect a fused jumper wire:

    • Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? 
    1. Yes:  REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new parking brake position switch.
    2. No:  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to on page 3.
  6. CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE POSITION SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Measure:

    • Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 4.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  7. CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE POSITION SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Disconnect: Body Control Module (BCM) C2280C.
    2. Measure:

    • Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to  11 on page 6.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH OPERATION
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Brake Fluid Level Switch.
    3. Ignition ON.
    • Does the brake warning indicator illuminate? 
    1. Yes:  GO to  10 on page 6.
    2. No:  GO to on page 5.
  9. CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SIGNAL AND RETURN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Disconnect: Body Control Module (BCM) C2280F.
    3. Measure:

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  GO to  11 on page 6.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuits.
  10. CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Measure:

    • Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 
    1. Yes:  INSTALL a new brake fluid level switch.
    2. No:  REPAIR the circuit.
  11. CHECK FOR CORRECT Body Control Module (BCM) OPERATION
  1. Ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect and inspect all Body Control Module (BCM) connectors.
  3. Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install newpins as necessary
  4. Reconnect the Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
  1. Yes:  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Body Control Module (BCM). REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITH INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) or REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) .
  2. No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
