Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE TIRE SIZE CONFIGURATION
    1. Using the scan tool, view Module Programming for the programmed tire size.
      NOTE: The correct tire size can be found on the Vehicle Certification (VC) label on the Left Hand (LH) B-pillar. REFER to VEHICLE CERTIFICATION (VC) CODES .
    2. Verify that the tire size configuration matches the Vehicle Certification (VC) label.
    • Is the tire size correctly configured? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 2.
    2. No:  CONFIGURE the correct tire size as required.
  2. CHECK THE AXLE RATIO CONFIGURATION
    1. Using the scan tool, view Module Programming for the programmed axle ratio.
    2. Verify the axle ratio is correctly configured.
    • Is the axle ratio correctly configured? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 2.
    2. No:  CONFIGURE the correct axle ratio.
  3. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
    • Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 
    1. Yes:  REFER to the appropriate Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE MODELS .
    2. No:  GO to on page 2.
  4. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) self-test.
    • Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 
    1. Yes:  For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0100:00, REFER to Diagnostic Routine AR .

      For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to DTC CHART: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) 

    2. No:  GO to on page 2.
  5. CARRY OUT THE SPEEDOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, view the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
    3. Select the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) speedometer (SPDOMETER) Parameter Identification (PID). Command the speedometer in 10% increments while monitoring the speedometer. The speed indicated should increase in increments of approximately 23 kmh (14.3 mph) for each 10% change.

    • Does the speed indicated increase within the specified range? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 3.
    2. No:  INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
  6. CHECK THE Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Parameter Identification (PID)
    1. Using a scan tool, view the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
    2. Select and monitor the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) vehicle speed (Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)) Parameter Identification (PID) with the speedometer indicating 32.2 kmh (20 mph), 64.4 kmh (40 mph) and 96.6 kmh (60 mph).
    • Does the speedometer indicate between 30.6 kmh (19 mph)-33.8 kmh (21 mph), 62.8 kmh (39 mph)-69.2 kmh (43 mph) and 93.3 kmh (58 mph)-103 kmh (64 mph) at the 3 PCM Parameter Identification (PID) values? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 3.
    2. No:  INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
  7. OBSERVE THE SPEEDOMETER OPERATION
  1. Ignition ON.
  2. Observe the speedometer with the vehicle at various wheel speeds and stopping frequently.
  1. Yes:  The speedometer is operating correctly at this time.
  2. No:  INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
