Pinpoint Test
- RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
- Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes: REFER to the appropriate Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE MODELS .
- No: GO to 2 on page 2.
- RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) self-test.
- Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded?
- Yes:
For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0100:00, REFER to Diagnostic Routine AR .
For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to DTC CHART: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
- No: GO to 3 on page 2.
- CARRY OUT THE TACHOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, view the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) tachometer (TACH_IND) Parameter Identification (PID). Command the tachometer in 10% increments while monitoring the tachometer.
- Does the tachometer indication increase by 600 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) (optional Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) bar graph display), 700 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) (base Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) or Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) analog gauge display) for each 10% increment?
- Yes: GO to 4 on page 2.
- No: INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
- CHECK THE Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) Parameter Identification (PID)
- Using a scan tool, view the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
- Select the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) engine Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) Parameter Identification (PID) (RPM) and set the engine Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) to 1,000, 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM).
- Monitor the engine Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) Parameter Identification (PID) (RPM) with the engine at 1,000, 1,500, 2,000 and 2,500 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM).
- Does the tachometer indication range between 944-1,056 at 1,000 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM), 1,444-1,556 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) at 1,500 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM), 1,944-2,056 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) at 2,000 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) and 2,444-2,556 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) at 2,500 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM)?
- Yes: The tachometer is operating correctly at this time.
