Pinpoint Test

  1. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
    • Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 
    1. Yes:  REFER to the appropriate Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual INTRODUCTION - GASOLINE MODELS .
    2. No:  GO to 2  on page 2.
  2. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) self-test.
    • Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) recorded? 
    1. Yes:  For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U0100:00, REFER to Diagnostic Routine AR .

      For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to DTC CHART: INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .

    2. No:  For the base Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), GO to  4 on page 2.

    For the optional Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), GO to 3  on page 2.

  3. CHECK THE DISPLAY MODE MENU
    1. In the display mode menu, press the message center (Left Hand (LH) steering wheel) switch to the right to display the tachometer.
    • Does the tachometer display? 
    1. Yes:  The tachometer is operating correctly at this time. The display mode was set to the tachometer off display.
    2. No:  GO to 4  on page 2.
  4. CARRY OUT THE TACHOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
    1. Ignition ON.
    2. Using a scan tool, view the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
    3. Select the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) tachometer (TACH_IND) Parameter Identification (PID). Command the tachometer on and off while monitoring the tachometer.
    • Does the tachometer begin at 0 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM), increase to 6,000 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) (optional Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) bar graph display), 7,000 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) (base Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) or Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) analog gauge display) then return to 0 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM)? 
    1. Yes:  INSTALL a new Powertrain Control Module (PCM). REFER to POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
    2. No:  INSTALL a new Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). REFER to INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) .
