Pinpoint Test

  1. CHECK THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION
    1. Close all doors.
    2. Wait one minute.
    3. Observe the exterior lights.
    • Are the headlamps and parking lamps off? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 2.
    2. No:  REFER to SYMPTOM CHART: HEADLAMPS or REFER to SYMPTOM CHART: PARKING, REAR, AND LICENSE PLATE LAMPS .
  2. CHECK THE INTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION
    1. Open and close the driver door.
    2. Observe the interior lamps.
    • Do the interior lamps operate correctly from the driver door? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 2.
    2. No:  REFER to SYMPTOM CHART: INTERIOR LIGHTING .
  3. RETRIEVE THE RECORDED Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) FROM THE Body Control Module (BCM) SELF-TEST
    1. Using a scan tool, perform the Body Control Module (BCM) self-test.
    • Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present? 
    1. Yes:  For Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B10F1:14, GO to on page 2.

      For all other Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), REFER to DTC CHART: BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) .

    2. No:  GO to  7 on page 4.
  4. CHECK THE Body Control Module (BCM) INPUT Parameter Identifications (PIDs) FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH
    1. Using a scan tool, view the Body Control Module (BCM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs).
    2. Select and monitor the Body Control Module (BCM) ignition switch Parameter Identifications (PIDs) (IGN_ACC/RUN), (IGN_RUN/STRT) and (IGN_SW_STATE) while cycling the ignition switch through ACC, OFF, RUN and START states.
    • Do the Body Control Module (BCM) Parameter Identifications (PIDs) match the ignition switch position? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 2.
    2. No:  REFER to SYMPTOM CHART: STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES to diagnose the ignition switch outputs to the Body Control Module (BCM).
  5. CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Remove the key from the ignition cylinder.
    3. Disconnect: Body Control Module (BCM) C2280B.
    4. Measure:

    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. Yes:  GO to on page 3.
    2. No:  GO to  7 on page 4.
  6. CHECK KEY-IN-IGNITION INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
    1. Disconnect: Ignition Switch.
    2. Measure:

    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. Yes:  REPAIR the circuit.
    2. No:  INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to IGNITION SWITCH .
  7. CHECK FOR CORRECT Body Control Module (BCM) OPERATION
  1. Ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect and inspect all Body Control Module (BCM) connectors.
  3. Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
  4. Reconnect the Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  5. Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present
  1. Yes:  CHECK On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new Body Control Module (BCM). REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITH INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) or REFER to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) - WITHOUT INTELLIGENT ACCESS (IA) .
  2. No:  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
