Inspection and Verification

NOTE: Verify the service disconnect plug is correctly inserted and locked into the LOCK position.
  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.

    • Vacuum control motor
    • Refrigerant lines

    • Auxiliary air inlet mode door
    • Auxiliary air inlet mode door actuator
    • Auxiliary air inlet mode door linkage
    • Battery junction box (BJB) fuse(s):
      • 2 (10A)
      • 16 (15A)
      • 19 (40A)
    • Smart junction box (SJB) fuse(s):
      • 18 (5A)
      • 22 (5A)
    • Passenger zone valve
    • Battery zone valve
    • Engine cooling fans
    • Blower motor
    • Circuitry
  3. NOTE: As pinpoint tests and measurements are being carried out, make sure to inspect for any disconnected, loose fitting or incorrectly installed component, module or in-line electrical connectors and pins.
  4. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  5. NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
  6. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the data link connector (DLC).
  7. NOTE: The vehicle communication module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
  8. If the scan tool does not communication with the VCM:
    • check the VCM connection to the vehicle.
    • check the scan tool connection to the VCM.
    • refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article, No power to the scan tool, to diagnose no communication with the scan tool.
  9. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • verify the ignition key is in the ON position.
    • verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
    • refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article to diagnose no response from the powertrain control module (PCM) or traction battery control module (TBCM).
  10. Carry out the network test.
    • If the scan tool responds with no communication from one or more modules, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
    • If the network test passes, retrieve and record the continuous memory diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
  11. Clear the continuous DTCs and carry out the self-test diagnostics for the PCM or TBCM.
  12. NOTE: Some PCM DTCs may inhibit air conditioning (A/C) operation. If any PCM DTCs are retrieved, diagnose those first. Refer to INTRODUCTION -- HYBRID ENGINES article.
  13. If the TBCM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Traction Battery Control Module (TBCM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index. If the PCM DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to INTRODUCTION -- HYBRID ENGINES article. For all other DTCs, refer to MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
  14. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, go to Symptom Chart .
NOTE: The airflow blend door is also referred to as the air inlet mode door.

P0535 A/C Evaporator Temperature Sensor Circuit Failure Go to Pinpoint Test B .
P0A7E Hybrid Battery Pack Over Temperature If any other related DTCs are present, DIAGNOSE those DTCs first. If no other DTCs are present, TEST the base A/C system. If the base A/C system is OK, REFER to HIGH VOLTAGE TRACTION BATTERY article. If the base A/C system does not operate correctly, REFER to CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM - GENERAL INFORMATION AND DIAGNOSTICS article.
P0A81 Hybrid Battery Pack Cooling Fan 1 Control Circuit Failure REFER to HIGH VOLTAGE TRACTION BATTERY article.
