Shift Solenoids (SS): Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2011 Ford Pickup, 2011 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2011 Ford F450 Super Duty, and 2011 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Solenoids are calibrated from the factory and are not all the same. To replace a solenoid, match the replacement solenoid type (normally high/normally low) and the band number with the original solenoid or harsh shifts or damage to the transmission can occur.

  1. Use the solenoid exploded view at the beginning of this procedure to identify the type (normally high/normally low) of solenoid it is and use the charts below to get the correct part number for the solenoid band number. Lubricate the solenoid O-rings with clean transmission fluid.
    SOLENOID BAND NUMBER

Solenoid Band Number Normally High Solenoid Part Number
    2 BC3Z-7G383-K
    3 BC3Z-7G383-L
    4 BC3Z-7G383-M
    5 BC3Z-7G383-N
    SOLENOID BAND NUMBER

Solenoid Band Number Normally Low Solenoid Part Number
    2 BC3Z-7G383-S
    3 BC3Z-7G383-T
    4 BC3Z-7G383-U
    5 BC3Z-7G383-V

  4. Install the solenoid retainer and the 7 bolts.
    • Tighten to 11 Nm (97 lb-in).
  5. Position the wiring harness in place and connect the solenoid electrical connector(s).
