- Preliminary Checks
Check engine oil level and quality (CI-4, CI-4/SL or DHD-1). Ensure proper engine oil dipstick is being used. Perform the following in order; TEST 2: SUFFICIENT CLEAN FUEL , TEST 3: CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL and TEST 7: INTAKE RESTRICTION under ENGINE PERFORMANCE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - 6.0L DIESEL article. Repair as necessary. If no problems are indicated, go to next step. - Check Fuel Pump Pressure
Perform TEST 10: ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP PRESSURE under ENGINE PERFORMANCE DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - 6.0L DIESEL article. Repair as necessary. If fuel pump pressure is okay, go to next step. - Perform KOEO On-Demand Self-Test
Perform KOEO ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST under QUICK TEST in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 6.0L DIESEL article. If any DTC are present, service DTCs as necessary. If no DTCs are present, go to next step. - Perform KOEO Injector Electrical Self-Test
Perform KOEO INJECTOR ELECTRICAL SELF-TEST under QUICK TEST in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 6.0L DIESEL article. If no DTCs are present, go to step 5. If any DTCs are present, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 6.0L DIESEL article and perform appropriate SYSTEM TESTS. If self-test does not run, go to next step. - Check Parameter Identifications
Using scan tool, check Parameter Identifications (PIDs). Perform TEST 10A: CHECK VPWR WHILE CRANKING , TEST 10B: CHECK RPM SIGNAL WHILE CRANKING , TEST 10C: MONITOR ICP PID WHILE CRANKING and TEST 10D: CHECK FUEL PULSE WIDTH WHILE CRANKING under HARD START/NO-START DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - 6.0L DIESEL article. If PID values are within specification, go to next step. If PID values are not within specification, perform appropriate system test under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 6.0L DIESEL article. - Check Glow Plug Control Module Power Circuit
Check voltage between Black/Orange wires at glow plug module connector and ground. If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, check fusible links and repair as necessary. - Check Glow Plug Control Module, Glow Plugs & Glow Plug Connectors
To check glow plug relay, perform TEST AF: GLOW PLUG SYSTEM under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 6.0L DIESEL article. - Check For Bias ICP Sensor
To check ICP sensor, perform TEST Q: INJECTION CONTROL PRESSURE SENSOR under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 6.0L DIESEL article.
