Test G: Transmission Temperature Gauge Reads Incorrectly (A/T Only)
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Perform self-diagnostics. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM . If DTC U1059 is retrieved, see appropriate article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If any other instrument cluster DTCs were retrieved, go to HYBRID ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX table. If no related DTCs were retrieved, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using New Generation Star (NGS) tester, select instrument cluster transmission temperature gauge active command. Trigger, observe and scroll transmission temperature gauge at 0 %, 50% and 100%. Transmission temperature gauge should indicate below cold with 0 %, half with 50% and full hot with 100%. If temperature gauge operates as specified, see appropriate article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If temperature gauge does not operate as specified, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and harness connectors that are not connected correctly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose harness connectors. Retest system operation. If problem does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear any DTCs. If problem exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
