Test T: Shift Up Indicator Is Inoperative/Always On

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester (418-F052). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Select instrument cluster active command ALL LAMPS ON and OFF. If shift up indicator illuminates and turns off, shift up indicator is working but not receiving a signal from PCM, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If charge shift up indicator illuminates and remains on, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and connectors that are not connected properly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Configure replacement instrument cluster, see appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If problem does not exist, then system is operating properly at this time, clear any DTCs and retest.
