Test N: Charge System Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On
- Start engine. If charge system warning indicator remains illuminated, go to next step. If charge system warning indicator does not remain illuminated, go to step 3.
- Check operation of charging system. If charging system is operating correctly, go to step 4. If charging system is not operating correctly, see appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester (418-F052). Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Select instrument cluster active command ALL LAMPS ON and OFF. If charge system warning indicator illuminates and turns off, see appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If charge system warning indicator illuminates and remains on, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and connectors that are not connected properly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Configure replacement instrument cluster, see appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If problem does not exist, then system is operating properly at this time, clear any DTCs and retest.
